XL Machine is the precision machining business of Burke Porter, an Ascential Technologies company. We machine and assemble build-to-print components in Three Rivers, Michigan, from prototype through full production.

CNC milling, turning, grinding and Swiss machining
We invest continuously in equipment so your parts run right the first time — nearly 100 CNC machines across milling, turning, grinding and Swiss. Our machining centers run tool center point control, probing, tool breakage detection, collision avoidance and 4- and 5-axis work. Our turning centers add gaging, live tooling, multi-axis machining, bar feeding, dual turrets, parts catching and steady rest for long parts.
Design, inspection and supply chain, all in house
Great machining means more than just making parts. We engage from the very beginning, before a single chip hits the floor — our engineering team works alongside yours, guides the design feasibility review and turns your print into build-to-print components and assemblies. Along the way we look for performance improvements in quality, speed and efficiency, and we manage the outsourced processes so you place one order, not five.

Burke Porter has a history of wide-ranging production, from prototype volumes for design and testing through programs running tens of thousands of parts a year. Three representative examples, each with the challenge it was won on.
Uncompromising quality
X-L Machine Co. is ITAR registered and certified to AS9100D for aerospace, IATF 16949 for automotive, ISO 9001:2015 for quality management and ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management. Behind them sit 12 CMMs, 3 optical comparators, a Rockwell tester and 4,500 in-house gages, and parts ship with dimensional reporting to your requirements.

There’s a lot more to your project than just machining, which is why we supply the complete project. We take your design from raw material to finished product, managing the supply chain of a part — or a full assembly — including heat treat, casting patterns (sand, permanent and high pressure), painting and plating. We are also committed to environmental preservation, certified to ISO 14001:2015.
